The three Great Principles of Freemasonry by which we stand are Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. Freemasons are taught to practise charity and to care, not just for their own, but for the community as a whole, both by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals.

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged. This work continues today. Masonic charity is exercised at every level, individual Lodge provides donations and gift aid to their communities whilst every Province also gives considerable sums of money to regional and national causes.

Giving to charity requires a personal commitment and it is up to each of us to decide how regularly we give, and how much. Nevertheless, giving generously in aid of charity is an honourable sentiment, which is re-enforced during every Initiation ceremony.

Freemasonry in general, and the Brethren of the Province of Norfolk in particular has an enviable record of providing regular and consistent financial support to individual charities over long periods, whilst at the same time making grants to local causes, appeals and projects each year. It teaches us to be concerned for others and to care for and help those in need and less fortunate than ourselves.
